Havasu Orange Men AZ
Day 67
Thank everything good and holy for kind neighbours! A huge thanks be to Wendy and Vern for letting us break and enter into your house in Lake Havasu City, AZ last night. We rolled the Rhino out onto the driveway for you, and if it is upside down at the bottom of the street when you get there, it happened after we left. They just don’t make emergency brakes like they used to. ...
Phoenix is Calgary
Day 65
We’ve been here in Phoenix about a week. Hunkered ourselves down in a cozy little RV park for Christmas, where we met up with my Dad and his partner, Evelyn. It was a lovely Christmas, or Glorbis (see last post), and we laughed, ate, drank, and made merry all the way through the week. Great to chat with our families over Skype and great to take in the first holiday season of our own,...

Merry Glorbis to all!
Day 63
We hope all of you and your families are having a safe and wonderful holiday season!
Since we tend to have our own way of doing things these days, we’re celebrating the holidays a little differently than most. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from living in 300 sq. ft. rolling habitat, it’s that possessions really aren’t that important. It’s the...

Day 61 This is what happens when ‘expertise’ transforms into a nightmarish attempt to plug a square peg into a round hole, with glue.
Merry Christmas Eve Eve.

Day 55
Today I was stopped in my tracks by a photography exhibit. Its name was, “Beloved Daughters: Photographs by Fazal Shiek.” We stumbled upon it while visiting Balboa Park during one of the warmest days of the week. I never expected the jolt of seeing such tragic stories in the eyes of these women. In fact, thinking about the beatings, the rape, burnings, and rejection they suffer...

Rootin Tootin' Sam Diego
Day 51
Who needs an alarm? It was 5:30am, and all of a sudden Walter lifted up and plunked down. And then again. It felt like an elephant sitting on the bumper. We shot out of bed in a hazy panic and peered out the window, expecting to see a hooded bandit trying to pry his way into Walter’s rear. Wait, that didn’t sound quite right. But you have to understand, our ears are always...
LA Times
Day 49
Our time in LA is spent. We barely skimmed the surface of this great and mysterious land. I suppose we could have stayed longer, but without an agenda and the fact that even a convenience store is a 22 mile jog, we just didn’t have the chutzpa to do it. Besides, Christmas is creeping ever closer, and we want to see what other warm places have inflatable Santas on their front...

Striking a Balance
Day 46
Guess what? It rained today. Sounds like something you’ve heard before, right? I think the entire west coast is getting it, so it’s not like we’ve been targeted. Besides, we had a great day with Luke, eatin’ some delicious Lebanese grub, scoutin’ out some wicked shoes, and scoping out a shop full of beach and commuter bikes. Then we played lego with little...
Hi Ho Hollywood.
Day 45
We’ve been a little quiet for the last couple of days. Trying to get our bearings in this hulking city/county known as Los Angeles. It is a city so enormous that it sprawls halfway down the California coast without apology. It is so large that we need to map out our entire route before even leaving our starting point or we’ll be lost forever in its gaping maw. It’s a...
Pismo Beach, CA
Day 42
I’m gonna make this short. I’ve had a long day of writing other stuff, and my brain is full to capacity. Or empty, depending on how you feel about me. I don’t care much.
We made it to Pismo Beach. It’s barely on the map, but features a cutesy little beach (filled with awesome pigeons —except that one greasy one I felt sorry for), trendy little surf shops,...

Monterey Bay Day
Day 39
It was a day of slurpy, salty, wet fun. You got it: we went to the aquarium at Monterey Bay. Just south of Santa Cruz, this little gem’s admission cost us a pretty penny ($30 USD each). But I must say, if ever you have an urge to spy on the underwater creatures of the abyss, this is the only way to do it.
Today we witnessed the stunning mating ritual of sea horses (though they...
